A Federação Portuguesa de Surf revelou hoje a Seleção Nacional Júnior que irá representar Portugal no EuroJunior 2018. A prova tem lugar em Santa Cruz, Torres Vedras, entre os dias 20 e 29 de julho.
É a segunda vez que a região Oeste recebe este evento – a primeira foi em 1996 com a seleção lusa a sagrar-se campeã; e para este ano são esperadas 15 seleções e cerca de 300 atletas. A equipa portuguesa, que venceu a última edição do europeu júnior, disputada em Marrocos em 2016, mantém naturalmente o foco no topo do pódio.
“É com orgulho que podemos afirmar que Portugal, de ano para ano, apresenta uma equipa nacional de surf, bodyboard e longboard, cada vez mais forte e competitiva. O nível apresentado pelos atletas das três modalidades desde o início do ano, deixa-nos confiantes para o futuro e temos a certeza, que o sucesso recente com as seleções nacionais em campeonatos do Mundo e da Europa vai continuar a acontecer”, pode ler-se no comunicado da FPS nas redes sociais.

South African Iain Campbell is the winner of the 2018 Itacoatiara Pro. The current world champion dominated the last day of competition by sealing the only unanimous ten point ride of the event plus beat his compatriot Tristan Roberts to celebrate the title in Brazil for the first time. With the victory, Iain also takes the lead of the APB World Tour after the Arica and Itacoatiara Grand Slam events.
“It’s an incredible feeling to win in Brazil. Every time I come here I get a huge support from the Brazilians and this South American leg was very good for me. I have done great prep work in South Africa, with great support from my professional team who are with me me and this is just felt satisfying. Now it’s time to go home and rest before the Australian event”, said Iain Campbell.
At just 27, Iain has shown incredible performances in recent years. Of the eleven past events he attended, Iain made the podium in nine of them. In Itacoatiara, the South African surfed the only ten point wave of the competition in the semifinal against Frenchman Pierre-Louis Costes. “It was an incredible wave. When I came out of the barrel and saw the ramp I knew I could try something else and went for the reverse air”, he explains.
This was the first time in the APB World Tour history that two South Africans made the final. Champion of the events in Port Alfred (South Africa) and Antofagasta (Chile), Tristan Roberts reached his third final in 2018 and was pleased with the result. “Of course I wanted to be champion, but I’m happy to have finished in second against my great friend Iain. We live close to each other and sometimes we surf together. My year has been very consistent and I hope to keep the roll going in the next events”, said Tristan.

Semifinalists of the competition, Jared Houston (AFS) and Pierre-Louis Costes (FRA) made great campaigns throughout the event in Itacoatiara. Jared confirmed his dominace with a third place, repeating the Arica result, and Pierre also added another important result in the ranking after coming second in the Chilean stage of the World Tour.
Eder Luciano was the best Brazilian in the competition closing the race in fifth place. Maxime Castillo, Alan Munoz and Tanner McDaniel also finished the event in equal 5th position. Best Portuguese rider in the event was Dino Carmo who make it to the Round 2 (round of 16 riders).
Next Event on the APB Tour will be in Australia – The Kiama Bodyboard King Pro – from July 30 to August 9. Be there or be square!

The wait worth it! After six lay days , Itacoatiara Pro finally restarted with classic conditions in the first day of main event. With waves of 6-8 feet (2.0 to 2.5 meters), sunny winds, sun and a full beach, what was seen were the best conditions in the seven-year history of the championship which featured the new format of competition. After two complete rounds the classification follows very tight and has a leader which is the 2 x world champion and Itacoatiara Pro, Amaury Lavernhe (Reunion Island), with 25 points from his three best waves.
“Today was a very good day of waves and very intense. I managed to find good waves in both heats and I’m already well positioned on the leaderboard, but that does not mean much. In Arica I experienced a similar situation and ended up eliminated in Round 4, so you need to stay focused all the time. This new format is interesting, but it is new. It is necessary to change the thoughts in the head to adapt and sometimes it may seem difficult. It is very cool to surf here in Itacoatiara, because it is the place that brings together the largest bodyboarding community in Brazil and see the crowded beach so it is motivating “, said Amaury Lavernhe, who added 8.75, 8.50 and 7.75 in his three best waves.
Just behind Amaury comes Tristan Roberts. Champion of two World Tour events already in 2018, Port Alfred (South Africa) and Antofagasta (Chile), the South African has a lot of confidence in the Itacoatiara Pro. “Surely that is the best way to start the championship. I tried to get the best waves throughout the heats. My strategy was not to stay in the same place all the time and it worked out. I think I need just one more good score to get saved and I want to continue having fun and looking for the best waves. The new format fits in well and the judges are doing a great job, we have nothing to worry about”, Tristan Roberts said shortly after his first heat.
Pierre-Louis Costes was also one of the best riders today. With two good waves on the leaderboard, the Frenchman is in fourth position and has a low score that he intends to improve in the next round on Monday. “I think this format may be a bit unfair on the beaches where sea conditions vary greatly throughout the day, but at the same time it will push the limit of other athletes, especially those who are in need of more scores in the last round. Today was proof of that. I did poorly in the first heat but managed to reverse my situation well with two good waves in the second round of the day. I have a low score i still need to improve on, “said Pierre-Louis Costes.
At the end of the first day of the main event, only two Brazilians are among the 16 qualifiers for the Round 4. Socrates Santana (5th) and Uri Valadão (10th) are the two bodyboarders in the country who would be guaranteed to qualify into top 16 cut if it ended now. However, the new format allows competitors to have three chances and on Monday athletes who are not in the top 16 will have another opportunity to exchange scores. Dudu Pedra (18th), Isaias Ravyc (20th), Eder Luciano (21st), João Zik (23rd), Roberto Bruno (25th) David Barbosa (27th), Adejaldo Silva (29th) and Hugo Medeiros .
“I managed to find good waves, especially in the second heat and I have a reasonable score at the moment. I know a lot can change so I will not settle and the goal is to keep on getting better scores. This format demands this, “explains Socrates Santana, best Brazilian so far.

Esqueçam os dias de chuva, o frio, o onshore e o flat. Uma empresa chamada 24/7 Waves procura construir as instalações na cidade de Haia.
Segundo a mesma, após anos de pesquisa, desenvolvimento e testes, a tecnologia da SurfPoel está pronta para ser lançada. A mesma produz ondas de 1 metro de altura, ao longo de 9 segundos, gerando um total de 149 ondas por hora.
Foi ontem que ficaram definidos os nove trialistas que irão competir no Itacoatiara Pro, 4.ª etapa do Circuito Mundial de Bodyboard que tem lugar até 26 de junho em Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil.
Em ondas de 1,5 metros e boa formação, foi o brasileiro Isaias Ravyc quem acabou por levar a vitória e garantir uma vaga no quadro principal, mas a ele juntaram-se outros três brasileiros, três havaianos, um sul-africano e um chileno.

Com as vagas preenchidas por David Barbosa, Adejaldo Silva, Hugo Medeiros e Isaias Ravyc, o Brasil passou a contar com dez atletas no evento principal. Os quatro trialistas classificados farão companhia a Uri Valadão, Eder Luciano, Dudu Pedra e Roberto Bruno, que pertencem Top 24 mundial, bem como Sócrates Santana e João Zik que receberam um wildcard da organização.
Do lado português, a prova conta com duas presença: Tó Cardoso e Dino Carmo. Internacionalmente destacam-se ainda as presenças dos sul-africanos Jared Houston e Tristan Roberts, dos franceses PLC, Amaury Lavernhe e Max Castillo, e ainda dos australianos Lewy Finnegan, Lachlan Cramsie e George Humphreys.
